Who We AreRoca: Mission and VisionRoca is a performance-based and outcomes-driven organization that helps young people to change their behavior and shift the trajectories of their lives through a High-Risk Youth Intervention Model. Roca serves very high-risk young people in Chelsea, Revere and East Boston. These young people are: in gangs, on the streets and in and out of prison; some have dropped out of school or are close to it; they are young parents, some as young as 12 and others with several children; and many are immigrants, far from home, left with memories of unspeakable violence. Our mission is to help disengaged and disenfranchised young people move out of violence and poverty. Our vision is clear: these highest-risk young people will leave the streets and gangs to take responsibility for their actions and have jobs. Young immigrant mothers will raise their children in safety and be recognized for their contributions to society. Our communities will have the ability to keep young people out of harm’s way and in turn, thrive through their participation and leadership. |
“When I first started Roca, I had low self-esteem. It was hard for me to speak my mind and share my feelings. Then Roca started getting me into the circle process, and everyone was so open. Gradually I started opening up. I’m able to express how I feel easier, and I don’t hide my feelings.” |
